Presentation
There are obvious limitations with static groups. Static groups are intended for static locations such as countries, regions etc. However, administrators may need to organize devices
...
automatically with different options such as
...
computer manufacturer, operating system
...
name, network subnets, write-filter states etc. proVconnect provides a Dynamic
...
Grouping feature for this purpose.
Creating Dynamic groups
You can group your devices dynamically. Dynamic grouping is a very powerful way to organize your endpoints
Dynamic grouping is especially interesting when you need to group a large number of devices
For this, you need to right click on the group in which you want to dynamically group devices
Criterias for creating dynamic groups
Dynamic groups can be created based on a number of pre-defined criteria: once you click on "Add Dynamic Group" you have a number of criterias you can select to group your devices
...
When a dynamic group is created using one of the choices above, the group will automatically populate with the appropriate devices
...
. The predifined criterias are:
Active Network Address | Processor Architecture |
Build Number | Processor Cores |
Computer Manufacturer | Processor Model |
Computer Model | Incidents in progress |
Network Address | proVconnect Agent Version |
DHCP | Write Filter State |
Operating System and Service Packs | Write Filter Status |
Operating System name |
...
Static and dynamic tags 1 to 5 |
When a dynamic group is created using one of the criterias above, the groups will automatically populate with the appropriate devices in the correct group
Examples
Automatically sort devices based on the Operating system name
Automatically sort devices based on the Operating system architecture
Automatically sort devices based on the Computer Model
Note
We need to stress the importance of the static and dynamic tags to help you customize the way your devices are grouped. A special section is dedicated to working with Tags here
